2) How is fixing different from making? What parts of your body do you use in all your work?
3) What does fixing to do to you? What are your innermost emotions?
4) What do your hands/body mean to you and your job?
5) Can you name the emotions that you experience while you fix or are they subliminal changes in the body?
6) How do you overcome the challenges posed by fixing?
7) Does fixing allow you to create your own style of working?
8) How does pace affect your interactions with your work?

Discussion:
I interviewed three different individuals in the workshop. A Head Mechanic and two Tinkerers. Their jobs and roles are very different. While Amjad the mechanic uses more of his mind these days, he does not think his hands and mind can be divorced while a new project lands his way.
The Tinkerers Irfan and Goush say their job demands keen coordination between their hands, mind, and eyes.
All three of my interviewees started as apprentices and said that there is no other way to learn this trade. It is the observation in the years of being apprentice that builds the body memory of tools, actions, and problem-solving methods. They believed that fixing an old thing to function as new is harder than making a new object.

Action:
I used the interview technique to interact with all three people. I had trouble articulating my question at certain points as neither of my candidates had given such deep thought to their job, and language was a barrier. I had to formulate and ask questions keeping in mind that I don't get them to agree with my premise. Reasking key questions was a technique I had to follow.
